MAMMOTION Robot Mowers: GroundCare Brand Guide

Last updated: September 2026 - GroundCare doesn't represent one individual manufacturer, so we start with the lawn rather than the product catalogue. This guide brings together manufacturer information, independent testing and owner feedback to explain where a brand sits in the robot mower market, what makes its technology different, and the types of property where it may — or may not — make sense. This is a brand overview, not a review of a particular model. Where GroundCare has hands-on experience with individual machines, installations or customer properties, those will appear separately alongside this guide.

The short version

Mammotion has become one of the most prominent technology-led brands in wire-free robotic mowing, particularly for large, steep and complicated residential properties. Its defining strengths are all-wheel drive, high slope capability, wide cutting systems and increasingly sophisticated combinations of LiDAR, network RTK and vision. The recurring reservation in owner feedback has historically been that software and after-sales support have not always felt as mature as the hardware.

Where Mammotion sits in the market

Mammotion now covers a fairly wide spectrum of lawn sizes, but the brand’s reputation was largely built around doing things conventional robotic mowers found difficult: steep gradients, rougher ground, large multi-zone gardens and properties where a perimeter wire would be inconvenient.

That remains its most distinctive position even as smaller and less expensive products have been added.

What makes Mammotion different?

The standout engineering choice is traction. LUBA machines use genuine all-wheel drive rather than relying simply on larger rear drive wheels, while the current LUBA 3 generation combines that drivetrain with LiDAR, network RTK and camera-based positioning. Mammotion claims slope capability of up to 80% for the flagship AWD platform.

Independent testers consistently highlight terrain handling as one of the brand’s strengths. Recent LUBA 3 testing has also found the move towards LiDAR and vision useful under trees and in areas where satellite-dependent systems traditionally struggle.

Where we’d look particularly closely at Mammotion

This is one of the brands we’d examine early for a large Irish garden containing combinations of slopes, uneven terrain, separate mowing zones, gravel or hard-surface transit routes and mature trees.

Ireland’s combination of fast grass growth and wet ground also makes traction worth taking seriously. A manufacturer’s theoretical area capacity matters much less if the machine repeatedly loses traction or cannot reliably move between sections of the property.

What we’d want to check before specifying one

A powerful AWD machine can be unnecessary on a small flat lawn, and wide machines naturally require enough physical room to manoeuvre.

We would also look carefully at local supply and after-sales arrangements. Current European customer feedback is substantially more positive than some historical discussion around the brand, but wider Mammotion owner feedback still contains complaints concerning repairs, firmware and support alongside many highly satisfied owners.

GroundCare perspective

Mammotion is particularly compelling where the property itself is difficult, rather than simply large. Slopes, traction, tree cover, multiple zones and awkward transitions are stronger reasons to consider the brand than area alone.

On a straightforward level suburban lawn, much of that engineering may be unnecessary.
